The northern lights, also known as the aurora borealis, are a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions (around the Arctic and Antarctic). The effect is caused by the collision of charged particles from the sun with atoms in Earth’s atmosphere. Norway is one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights, due to its location above the Arctic Circle. The best time to see the northern lights in Norway is between September and March, when the nights are long and dark.
