The Flam Railway is the steepest standard-gauge railway in the world, climbing 863 metres (2,831 feet) over its 20-kilometre (12.4-mile) journey from Flåm to Myrdal. It is also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Norway, with over 800,000 passengers carried each year.
